Wetherby Athletic travelled to the home of Yorkshire Amateur on Saturday to take on East End Park FC.
It was a new look East End Park who now have joined forces with Yorkshire Amateur to bring young players through to the semi professional outfit.

Wetherby were missing Anthony Walsh (hamstring), Ed Paxton (cricket) and Liam McEntee (away) but still had a strong squad to choose from and gave a full debut to Danny Ajibona who started in central midfield.

Wetherby struggled to make an impact in the first half but somehow took the lead on 20 minutes with a wonder strike from Josh Wilson 0-1.

Tom Frost then had to be replaced due to injury and on came Mark Pieri as his replacement.

Much of the remainder of the half belonged to the home side and they were soon level after 30 minutes and it was the big number 9 Roy Fogarty who rounded Hooper and slotted home 1-1.

East End Park were unlucky not to add to their lead before half time but Wetherby hung on to take a well earned breather.

Athletic came out with more purpose in the second half and showed more aggression but both teams were still trying to win the game and both teams missed some good opportunities, Ajibona with the best of the chances with 20 minutes remaining for Wetherby.

Wetherby thought they had won the game on 85 minutes when two of the substitutes combined Mark Pieri put in a great cross to the far post Germayne Woodley rose the highest but somehow his header hit the far post instead of nestling into the far corner.

Much to take from the second half performance and a much improved East End Park from last season, Wetherby now will prepare for their first home game of the season next week as they face Oxenhope Recreation at The Ings.
