Wetherby Athletic went into the game knowing that a win could lift them up the table but a defeat could put them in trouble in the bottom three and unfortunately it was the latter that came to fruition on Saturday.
In a game that Athletic just never got going a lot of credit has to be given to Wyke for their work rate and general performance on the day and they totally deserved to take all three points.
From the off it was Wyke who looked more dangerous with front man Louis Sterling causing the Wetherby back line problems from the first minute with his pace and running off the ball.
And indeed it was Sterling who opened the scoring after just ten minutes as he latched onto a through ball and managed to keep the ball with three orange shirts round him and slotted past Hooper in the Wetherby goal. 0-1.
For the remainder of the half Wetherby huffed and puffed but did not really create any clear cut chances as the Wyke defence held firm the closest they came was a long range James Flynn shot that struck the crossbar.
Athletic were looking a shadow of themselves and everything was looked very laboured and at half time they found themselves a goal down
HALF TIME: Wetherby Athletic 0-1 Wyke Wanderers
A slight change of formation at half time didn't help matters in the second half either as things did not improve in fact as the game went on Wyke were looking stronger and on 60 minutes they doubled their lead with Sterling getting his second, 0-2.
Wyke were good value for a third as well when Sorhaindo brought down the dangerous Sterling in the box, a stone wall penalty was awarded and converted, 0-3.
Wanderers saw the game out and Wetherby keeper Hooper was the busier in the final ten minutes all in all 0-3 did not flatter Wyke.
A very disappointing performance from the boys and one that is very rare over the last two and a half years, we will have to see now with Lockdown 2 imminent if the season will continue or delayed but either way things need to improve on the pitch.
FULL TIME: Wetherby Athletic 0-3 Wyke Wanderers
