Tom led a side missing some of its usual big names, those that had played the previous day in the defeat by Garforth P.C. were supplemented by several 2nd team players, including 4 of the clubs up and coming juniors, all of whom excelled themselves during the game.
Walton batted first and battled to a well-deserved 134 for 9 off their 40 overs against some very tight bowling, especially from Adam Wilkinson (3 – 15 off 8),Neil Thomas (2-16 off 8), and Tom Hudson (2 – 13 off 2) with Adil Mahmood top scoring with 44. Although, with my view from the score box, it as to be said that several dropped catches, probably caused by the cold weather, assisted Walton in amassing their total.
Richard Grogan and Josh Wilson got the batting off to a steady start putting on 21 off 9 overs before Josh was caught out for 3 runs. Captain, Tom Hudson then joined Richard in the middle and between them they added another 63 runs to move the total on to 84 at the end of the 23 over when Richard was dismissed, caught and bowled by Andy Robson (1 – 25 off 8).
Tom Hudson and Paul Horsey then shared in an unbroken 3rd wicket partnership of 54 to see the side to victory in the 29th over.
The team to face Ledsham away in the next round of the cup on June 7th.
