Weybridge CC made the short trip along the river to Brownacres on Friday night for what turned out to be a close encounter in every way.
The Vandals won the toss and decided to field - as is their way - and made a tidy, if uneventful, start. It wasn't until Flynn Brooker livened things up with a direct run out that Vandals made inroads. Oliver Todd, acting alertly behind the stumps soon followed with another run out but whilst the batters weren't finding the middle the bowlers were finding wickets hard to come by. That was until Ryan Bradley was introduced and showed us all his fine array of wrong 'uns. Normally a seamer, Ryan changed to leg spin with great affect taking 3 wickets at a very economical rate.
Some big hitting at the end by Weybridge's Evan saw the visitors set 291 for the home side to chase. Vandals will have been a little disappointed with their catching and some of the ground fielding but were still in the game as the sides changed round.
Oscar and Flynn started things off well with the bat with some good strokes and urgent running. Aidan followed with some lusty blows but the middle innings lost impetus and looked to be petering out meakly. That was until man of the match Ryan attacked the final overs, sweetly striking the ball to the boundary at a regular rate. Needing 11 of the last over Ryan was starved of strike and although he hit the final ball for four the Vandals fell 5 short of their target.
A solid performance from the V's helped by an exceptional night for Ryan Bradley.
