Time to keep our cool and take the court for the last time in the winter 2014/15 season!

So Saturday marked the last game of the Vandal’s Surrey Winter League season as the season seemed to be over in a flash! It was time to keep our cool and complete the season with one more win to remain undefeated for a second season running.
With a top of the table finish and promotion already secured the final goal was to keep that undefeated record. With concentration starting to slip as the first centre pass was delayed captain Kate was on it in a flash keeping the team active and doing drills. As the sun got hotter and the centre pass later, finally Dorking had to take the court a player down as their umpire was unfortunately delayed.

The first quarter saw the V’s take a steady lead but maybe not display their finest netball skills – Dorking were restored to a full team as the original umpire turned up minutes after the start and took the court as a player. Back to 7 a side and Vandals settled in to the game towards the end of the quarter although still not displaying the usual flow of their matches. That’s said still a solid quarter with Vandals leading heading in to the second quarter. The second quarter followed much the same pattern as the first with some sloppy passes costing Vandals to lose possession. Dorking carried on fighting but the Vandals defence continued to turn over balls allowing them to increase their lead.

A half time break saw some much needed jelly baby and liquid loading and a few position changes with Jo coming on to GS and Anna moving from GS to WA to give Amy a break for a quarter. With the aim to reduce the throw away balls that had crept in to the game things didn’t start well with the first 2 attacks for Vandals resulting in turn over balls! However after this the passing was much improved and saw Lucy and Jo slot home goal after goal whilst the defence of Kat, Lizzi and Charlie continued to put pressure on the Dorking attack. Elaine as crucial as ever was continuing to hold the team together and bring the turn over balls down court with some pin point feeds in to the attacking third. The fourth quarter saw Elaine take a well earnt rest and Amy return to the game at C. The final quarter saw more of the same dominating play with Vandals securing a 63-11 win. What an amazing season for the team and great effort by the squad, top of the table in both leagues and undefeated – not a bad season – more of the same in 2015/16 please!
