Match report by: Helen Mather

When the opposition turns up looking extremely youthful and with a combined age of around 100 years, you know you are in for a good, fast match. It was lovely to come back to the island for our first home match in ages, and we spruced up the court with the assistance of a stiff brush and Grace's dad (thank you!) and then we were good to go. Lou arrived to watch and support us, and was promptly handed the C bib which she gamely accepted, and put in a very strong and effective performance (and hopefully had some juice left in the tank for the OCs in the afternoon - sorry!)
After a slightly tentative start, with quite a few turnovers at each end and a few new combinations within the team, the first quarter felt very close, but ended at 9-3 up to Vandals.
We settled into our stride in the second quarter and there were a lot of flying interceptions all down the court, and a better flow of play down the court and across and into the circle. The whole team fought hard, with arms over all the balls and a lot of pressure on the opposition's passes. Passing around the circle by Michelle and Lou was working really well, and we ended the second quarter in a strong position, 22-6 up.
The third quarter saw some more great work in the circle, with Grace and Sooz landing goals left, right and centre and Grace showing some lovely movement to collect passes from Sooz and the rest of the hard working attack (including one memorable pass across the circle that Grace leapt several feet in the air to catch on her fingertips). We ended the third quarter at 37-9, with Leigh and Jules working tirelessly in defence and stopping most of the balls before they reached me in the circle at GK.
Roundwood fought back in the last quarter, or its possible that the lure of our pizza waiting for us in the clubhouse was distracting us a little, but we still managed to hold the last quarter to a draw and ended the game at 42-14.
Our opposition had the long drive to Croydon to look forward to. We had cold pizza, Twirl Bites and that winning feeling.
Opposition player was our Duracell Bunny, Michelle T.
Players' player was our very own Young 'Un, Grace.
