A quick look to 2022-23 Season

Stuart Howkins12 Jun 2022 - 07:28

New Leagues, Cup competition, More derbies, Pre Season

Senior Pre season training starts Saturday 9th July at 10am at Vandals.

Pre season sessions training will continue on Tuesday and Thursday starting at 7pm and Saturday mornings at 10am.

New season and new league for our 1st XV.
As you know our 1st XV finished 3rd in the league last year to earn a well earned promotion, in the back ground the RFU have been carrying out the biggest review of their league structures in over 30 years. By restructuring the league the RFU have aimed to;
Reduce travel time and distance for the majority creating more local derbies

A new national cup competition at the end of each season
The RFU spokesman said “ These changes have been designed following feedback from clubs and players responding to their needs and changes in society. The changes are intended to re-boot and re-energise community rugby, improving player retention and attracting new players to the adult game”

For the Vandals we have been placed in Counties 1 Surrey/Sussex (previous level 7) and if we earn promotion this season we will go up to Regional 2 ( Previous level 6). Clubs competing at the Regional 2 level include Reeds, London Irish Amateur, Cobham, Guildford, Farnham.

In our league for next season we will compete against the following clubs;
Chobham, Hove, Kingston, Old Cranleighans, Old Emmanuel, Old Georgians, Old Tiffs, Old Walcountians, Trinity, Twickenham and Warlingham.

This means the majority of our games are Surrey local derbies against teams we have a long and proud history against. Lots to look forward to in our 90th anniversary season.
