A summary of all your senior, colts and junior early September games

Having narrowly lost to Teddington the previous week in the first of 2 preseason matches Weybridge Vandals more than made amends last Saturday with a thumping victory over Staines RFC, a club that has stood proud for many years previously in the national leagues.

From the outset in this game Vandals were quick to dominate both in the basic skills and the set pieces with their pack providing plenty of set piece ball and together from the breakdown as well, allowing the backs to show their paces and penetrate the Staines defence at regular intervals. The execution and the build up to the several tries they scored showed great teamwork, and was evidence of the hard graft they have put in on the training pitch under Damien Porter and his coaching staff.

The win over Staines was a morale boosting success which was just what was required as they approach the forthcoming League matches, starting this Saturday 14th of September against Old Georgians RFC, the Old boys of St Georges college, a mouth-watering fixture, with all the emotions of a local Derby coming to the surface.

Vandals junior section have also been in full training for the new season, with League and Cup fixtures starting very soon in all age groups from U12 through to U18 Colts. The odd friendly fixture has already taken place, with the U15 playing Staines prior to the first XV game. The boys showed plenty of skill and spirit before going down by 17 pts to 24, while on the Sunday, Vandals U16 scored some great tries in a thrilling victory over old Emmanuel RFC by 44pt to 33 in a game which was a credit to both sides.

The Colts had a tough opening fixture against Farnborough but they overcame the physical size of their opponents with aggression of their own and better all-round team work, bring them victory by 22 pts to 5. There were several outstanding individual performances none more so than by Vandals number 8, Will Jones, who was voted man of the match.

At the Mini level—Vandals were pleased to welcome a whole new age U6 group of future players at the first full Sunday down at a sunny Brownacres.. We welcome them and hope to see these go up thru the ranks and enjoying their time playing Rugby at Weybridge Vandals RFC
