Despite the unprecedented conditions caused by the CV19 pandemic, Weybridge Vandals RFC have been back in training in preparation for the new season which is scheduled to start towards the end of September. Under head coach Damien Porter and his assistants David Hoade and Nigel Taylor players have been undergoing rigorous fitness sessions on a Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings. Attendance has been extremely encouraging with numbers ranging from 40 to 60 which augurs well for the club. Last year Vandals sometimes struggled to raise two sides but optimism is high that three sides as well as a strong Colts contingent will be the norm. The junior sides, age range 13 to 16 have been training under the enthusiastic coaches and these teams will look forward to competitive matches in their respective leagues from September onwards.

Head coach Porter has worked the senior players and Colts hard in these preseason training sessions with plenty of sprinting an interval running interspersed with anaerobic exercises. Plenty of ball handling workers been introduced from basic passing to offloading out of contact for. And to finish off the high 60- or 70-minute workout the players have taken part in small sided games, emphasis has been on putting a player into space to achieve a pass.

After this week's training first Tuesday the 21st and Saturday the 25th of July there will be a rest period and training will resume on Tuesday the 4th of August .

The well organised training and coaching sessions has already attracted a wealth of new talent which can only add to the desired players to compete vigorously for a first XV place. This competitive attitude will add to the good feeling and spirit around the Vandals club, who aspired for a top three place in London SW 3.
