Yet another great day in the Sun back at Vandals.....

Following their successful domestic touch rugby competition, the previous week, Vandals raised the bar again last Saturday 24th of April when they hosted a similar tournament but in this time on Inter club basis. Vandals themselves fielded three sides while Richmond and Guildfordian entered two teams and to complete the contingent there were squads from the Met Police, Lightwater, Holloway University, Reeds Weybridge, and the eventual winners, Bank of England.

The clubs were split into pool A and pool B and as in the domestic event the two touch rule was implemented, the players going to ground on the second touch. There were some absorbing matches with some superb tries being scored, particularly by Richmond sides Bank of England and Guildfordians first squad. The semi finals were equally as exciting with one try in each tie separating the winner from the loser, the bank coming from behind to win by four tries to three and Guildford Inns defeating Richmond 2 by three tries to two.

The stage was now set for an intriguing final and the two teams did not disappoint, but it was Bank of England, with their superior handling and support play, together with their electric pace, that gave them victory by three tries to one.

The smooth running of the tournament was largely due to the organising skills of Vandals secretary Stuart Howkins, who kept everyone informed with his scoring charts and, just as important running a rota system for the referees.

From start to finish this Inter club day was a resounding success, and much appreciated by players all teams and their supporters. Special thanks must go to Vandals President Kevin Keaney and his head coach Damian Porter, who's initiative and enterprising planning such an event was inspirational. In presenting the medals to winners and runners up Kevin praised the efforts and rugby skills of all teams and looked forward to organising similar competitions later in the season. Finally he thanked all behind the scenes helpers, in particular those serving the food and drinks, and suggested players should have a few pints before leaving!!.
