Chichester 4 vs Weymouth 1

After 5 wins on the bounce, Weymouth were hoping to remain at the top of the table with a win over Chichester. As the half began Weymouth started the better side mounting lots of pressure on the home side’s goal with Patrick May hitting the post twice. With nine of the ten outfield Weymouth players in the opposing half, Chichester countered and against the run of play struck the opener with a fine piece of team work resulting a crafty finish under Dukes in goal. The away side didn’t let their head’s drop and quickly responded when a shot from Patrick May deflected off the post and Andy Styles bundled it in to equalise. From then on Weymouth never looked back and when a superb run from right to left by Sam Drewitt, found Joe Foot who crossed expertly for an accurate deflection into the top corner by May. The third goal came when once again Foot found May, who was unmarked in the D who for the second time found a top corner with a reverse stick. May was able to complete his first half hat trick when he converted a short corner with a drag flick resulting in the team in the lead at the half time whistle.

As the second half began Weymouth looked as if they were happy with the score with no real threat going forward yet remaining solid at the back. However when Chichester were awarded a short corner, in which they managed to convert to make the score 4 – 2, this looked to spark Weymouth in to life once again. With a good team performance in a very physical game there were few that stood out more the young Luke Drewitt, who looked confident in possession and done well to keep the ball at times. With the game coming to a close, Weymouth were closing in on another 3 points to keep their top spot and the win was guaranteed when May showed great commitment to dive in at the keeper’s pads and scramble the ball over the line to grab his 21st goal of the season. Weymouth are at home this Saturday against Alton 1s.
