On the road with 11 players.

Weymouth looked to carry on their winning ways with a tough trip away to Salisbury. The game started with the home side creating chances and dominating the possession, with Weymouth unable to get a foothold in the game. However, due to fantastic forward pressing and a resilient back line including veteran Dave Beaudro and debutant Ben Simpson, Weymouth were able to keep the ball out of the net.

It was the visitors who took the lead against the run of play when a great flowing move found Teddy Ruxpin who danced his way into the circle and scored an excellent backhand shot into the bottom corner. This sparked the Seasiders into life and it wasn't long until they had doubled their lead. Weymouth won a penalty corner and forward Patrick May found Ruxpin at the back post who deflected the ball into the corner. There was just time left in the first half for Salisbury to reduce the deficit when they caught Weymouth on the break to tap in at the back post.

Weymouth began the following half on the front foot and extended their lead early on, when great pressure led to another penalty corner. May stepped up and dispatched an excellent drag flick low to the keepers left. The Seasiders were in the ascendancy now and scored again immediately after the restart when captain Steven Membury stole the ball on the halfway line and drove towards the goal beating two defenders and then had the composure to slot the ball into the bottom corner past the on rushing keeper.

The game was all but won now and thanks to solid performances from forward Aaron Wilkinson, midfielder Matt Hicks and defenders Simon Harvey and Mike Westlake Weymouth were looking very comfortable. On the rare occasions when Salisbury were able to have a shot at goal they were left wanting as goalkeeper David Civil was in fine form and shut the door on any opportunities they had.

There was still time for more goals in the game, the first coming to Weymouth through another debutant, Florian Ziegenbalg. He was found in the circle and confidently fired past the keeper. As with the first half, Salisbury scored a late consolation goal in the second half too. Weymouth were overloaded and they scored past keeper Civil with minutes to go.

Weymouth will be looking to mount a serious title challenge this year and will be hoping to stick to winning ways at home to Southampton Trojans this weekend.

MotM - debutant, Florian Ziegenbalg.
