Good start

Weymouth 1’s/2’s V Blandford and Sturminster
Weymouth travelled away to Clayesmore to play Blandford and Sturminster for the first friendly pre season game of the season.
Weymouth started well using all the width and defence to move Blanford around. Weymouth created space giving the midfield the opportunity to play the ball through the middle and run into the D. A swift pass to Anna Dencher resulted in a 1-0 lead to Weymouth within 5 minutes, on her debut game for Weymouth.
Weymouth continued pressure upfront and had opportunities to get the ball into the D, finally being awarded a penalty corner. A slip to the right gave Emily Austin her first goal of the match.
The attack worked well together using the left and right hand sides simultaneously. Good play ensured Emily Austin received the ball in the D and a reverse strike hit the backboard (3-0)
Weymouth were using their substitutes well, keeping the Blandford side guessing and forcing errors. A run through from Emily Austin and a pass to Linda Drewitt in the D made the score 4-0 before half time.
The second half began at a slower pace with Weymouth needing more time to get into a rhythm. Weymouth kept all attacks from Blandford at bay with good movement between the defensive 4. Pressure upfront allowed Emily Austin to run with the ball up the right wing, around several players and enter the D, where a straight strike changed the score to 5-0 and Emily’s third of the match.
Blandford picked up the pace and began attacking Weymouth by loading the play upfront. Weymouth did well to keep the goals at bay but couldn’t get the ball past the half way line. The continued pressure led to 4 short corners in a row, with the final straight strike ending in Blandford’s first goal of the match.
Blandford’s attacks put a lot of pressure on Weymouth upfront causing them to play deeper. At set pieces Blandford crowded the area and this resulted in dispossession at the top of the D and a straight strike into the goal, with a 5-2 score line.
Weymouth regained their strength and rebuild the initial pressure they had in the first half. Good passes around the pitch resulted in play down the left hand side, with a cross from Anna Dencher and a finish from Chloe Van Crugten, ending the match with a 6-2 win for Weymouth.
