Weymouth went to Bournemouth, the league leaders, in positive mode, determined to bounce back from their defeat last week. A strong start with lots of early pressure led to a deserved short corner. Natalie (Balsamic) Halford opening the scoreboard with a cracking strike, putting Bournemouth on the back foot. Quick retaliation saw Bournemouth with a fast break and an awkward lifted ball into the 'D' to manage an equaliser. After numerous goal attempts and pressure from Weymouth, a goalmouth scramble ensued with Lynda Drewitt playing the advantage well, to find the goal and make it 2-1 to Weymouth. After continued pressure, Captain Emily Austin skillfully weaved her way through the Bournemouth defence and accurately slotted the ball home making it 3-1. Weymouth maintained great pressure and fitness and continued to make many attacking plays. Lucy Byre came up from defence and drove the ball high, before crossing the ball to Caitlin Dive just outside the circle. From here Caitlin skillfully lifted the ball over the defenders stick before passing it to Lara Blundell, who was positioned well on the right post and scored a well timed and precise goal to make it 4-1. Weymouth absorbed a little return pressure well, with Laura Osborne keeping a clean sheet in the second half. A fantastic display of hockey and a well deserved strong scoreline win for Weymouth, giving the league leaders their first defeat this season! Weymouth now look forward to playing Devizes at home next week.
Man of the match GK Laura Osborne.
