Weymouth ladies continued their winning streak this week with a well deserved win against a strong Wooten Bassett side. It was 3rd v 4th place in the table so closely matched and both teams very keen for the 3 points.
Weymouth started well with some good link up play by Susie stone, Laura Mccurdy and Emily Austin. After a lot of pressure Weymouth took the lead with a great pass into the D by Natalie Halford and Lynny Drewitt deflected the ball skilfully to the right of the advancing keeper.
Not long after it was a Wendy butcher ball that found Drewitt with her back to goal and somehow deflected the ball past the keeper again with, what could be, goal of the season.
More good play and pressure led to a penalty corner. A good move between Austin and butcher resulted in a well placed shot in the corner.
Wooten Bassett had a number of good counter attacks in the first half but defence looked strong with Halford and Sophie foot never looking in danger. Laura Osborne had a great game in goal and made some great saves in the first half.
Drewitt got her hat trick after Austin made a run into the D and beat the keeper only to be fouled. The umpire played advantage and Drewitt pounced on the free ball and slotted the ball home powerfully.
4-0 half time.
Second half weymo didn't waste much time in scoring a 5th. It was the on fire Drewitt again. A well worked pen corner from Halford to Mccurdy with a great pass across to Drewitt and another cool finish to get her 4th.
Wooten Bassett got one back when they had a good shot saved by Osbourne only for the ball to rebound to a WB forward. Osbourne dived to save the second shot but ball snuck in.
Butcher got the 7th when she skilfully dribbled into the D and cooly scored with a one handed reverse shot into the corner.
Weymouth now go level on points with top two Salisbury and Bournemouth.
