Last Saturday brought the long awaited away trip to Newquay, a hotly anticipated game. Although the journey down was a great start to the day the game did not start in quite the same way with Newquay scoring their first goal in less than 45 seconds. Weymouth did not let this deter them and they kept their head held high fighting back at every opportunity. Weymouth managed to create some great chances but couldn’t quite find the finishing power against a very talented goalkeeper and the score finished 0-2 to Newquay at half time.
After a quick change of ends Weymouth came out determined to get on the score board and they didn’t have to wait long until Becca Duffield managed to convert after a great feed from Niamh Houghton, down the left hand side. However Newquay pulled it together and using some pretty slick play managed to bring the score up to 1-3. This led to Weymouth’s frustrations getting the better of them and resulting in a loss of their usual controlled playing manner and even with some absolutely stunning performances from goalkeeper Megan Eaden-Turner and league debutant Amanda Sullivan, Weymouth ended leaving Cornwall 1-5 in Newquay’s favour.
