Weymouth Ladies 1st XI started strong, defending solidly and attacking with pace in the opening 10 minutes of the game. An unfortunate hit to a Weymouth foot in the defensive 25 allowed an early take to create the first Yeovil goal against the run of play.
Soon afterwards, a Yeovil attacker managed to become free from her defender to create a one-on-one with the keeper, with some excellent stick control she confidently placed the ball between the keepers legs to make it 2-0. Weymouth did temporarily pull one back with Lynda Drewitt volleying in a shot but it was disallowed as it was deemed a dangerous pass into the D.
Not long into the second half, Yeovil made it 3-0. Weymouth responded with Sophie Russell driving down the left wing, squared the ball to midfielder Susie Stone , who skilfully took on a Yeovil defender and shot at goal for the keeper to parry out to the side for Amanda Sullivan to sweep in the rebound for 3-1.
Weymouth were revitalised after this goal and soon after, Emily Austin passed down the line to Gina Brown who drove the ball to the back line, swept it across to the penalty spot where it deflected off of an opponent’s stick up into the air for Jo Brazier to hit it at shoulder height into the back of the net for 3-2.
Weymouth were then pressing for an equalizer but it wasn’t to be with Yeovil capitalising on the space at the back to score 2 more and making the final score 5-2.
Weymouth put out a strong performance and the score didn’t reflect the game. There were many strong drives from Austin and Becca Duffield down the flanks, but these didn’t materialise into shots on goal.
