Weymouth fall short at home to Marlborough

Marlborough get three points from the home side
Weymouth played at home for their first game in 2019, after a 6 week break over Christmas! The home side were ready for a tough game and desperate to secure 3 points after losing to this team 3-2 away at the start of the season.
The match started well and strong play from both sides saw an exciting end to end battle. A beak from the visiting side by the half way line saw Weymouth on the back foot running back towards their own goal. A fast paced attack from Marlborough saw the attacker in the D and slot it past home keeper, Eadon, who got beaten at her near post.
Weymouth levelled the scoring by earning a short corner after a strong attack, with some great play in the middle from Casey Foot, Jodie Stone and Anneka Bowles. A slick and well worked short corner saw Co-Captain Amanda Sullivan-Harvey score a great goal after hitting the ball across the D into the far corner of the goal.
The second Marlborough game down the same side, after again a change o fpace from the attacking she passed the ball across the face of the goal for it to be pushed over the line by an grateful attacker.
Weymouth were 1-2 down into half term. Second half, and Weymouth were looking for a goal. Constant rolling subs and good communication on the pitch were crucial to the strength of the home side. After great play down the right from Susie Stone and Emily Austin, Weymouth's second goal came from Julia May. 2-2 and the game had opened up.
However, Weymouth could not find a way through the away sides defence. Marlborough scored twice more before the final whistle. Both goals came from a breakdown in play and an overload in the D. Weymouth kept the pressure on and narrowly missed the chance to get a goal back.
Overall, it was a solid performance from the home side who, unfortunately, were just unable to convert their chances in to goals.
Weymouth travel away to Swanage & Wareham this weekend (26th Jan) and hope for a strong and dominant performance to secure 3 points.
