10 penalty corners and no goal!!!

Weymouth travelled away to Bath University this week to play Team Bath 2’s.
Team list: Emily Austin ©, Anneka Rogers (VC), Sophie Foot, Carla Garth, Jacqui Riddler, Caitlin Dive, Olivia Culbreth, Susie Stone, Chloe Van Crugten, Emilie Sauven, Rachael Bustin, Naomi Gadian, Lucy Fortescue.

Man of the Match: Emily Austin.

Bath started quickly, spreading the ball to the wingers using all the width, keeping Weymouth players on the back foot. The long car journey had clearly taken its toll on the Weymouth side with Bath scoring in the first 10 minutes with a strike from the drop of the D.
Weymouth continued to battle and held their ground well, with good play in the midfield to keep possession and close down the Bath attackers. Excellent play by Emily Austin down the right hand side created numerous attacks for Weymouth, but the Bath keeper prevented any chance of a conversion with several saves.
Weymouth conceded a penalty corner after strong attacking play from Team Bath. Bath converted this to a 2-0 lead with a straight strike routine.
Weymouth continued to play well and had several opportunities to score before half time, with a fantastic shot on goal by Rachael Bustin, but the Bath keeper was strong and ceased any attack.
Half time discussions highlighted some areas to improve and Weymouth were disappointed to be 2-0 down at half time after several chances.
Weymouth began the second half strong and kept their shape, maintaining good pace throughout by great holding play and distribution by Susie Stone in midfield.
Weymouth defence were strong (Anneka Rogers, Sophie Foot, Naomi Gadian, Olivia Culbreth and Jacqui Riddler), blocking all attempts on goal and fed the balls out to the midfield and wingers to create an attack. Emily Austin created many opportunities down the right hand side giving Weymouth several penalty corners in quick succession. Weymouth tried various routines but all were cleared by the Bath keeper and defence.
In the second half, Weymouth had a high percentage of possession, elicited creative play and a strong defensive position, but unfortunately could not impact the 2-0 score line. The game ended 2-0 to Team Bath and a disappointed Weymouth side.
