Man of the Match: Emily Austin.

Weymouth hosted Wimborne at Redlands this week and were looking forward to playing their rivals in a usually highly competitive match.
Weymouth started with pace and played the ball well around the back to create width and forward play. Weymouth had a few attacks through the midfield with quick play by Susie Stone, Emily Sauven and Luce Bryne, unfortunately the Wimborne defence held strong and prevented any attack being converted.
What seemed like an age of attacks on goal and excellent runs down the wings, Weymouth finally won a penalty corner and this was converted to a 1-0 lead from a straight strike by Emily Sauven.
Weymouth had a strong defence by Anneka Rogers, Sophie Foot, Chloe Van Crugten and Naomi Gadian, which blew any attack by Wimborne out of the water.
Weymouth continued to play well, with Emily Austin, Caitlin Dive and Linda Drewitt linking well upfront, leading to a well worked goal, scored by Caitlin Dive.
An uncharacteristic mistake from defence and midfield allowed Wimborne to take advantage of a short pass and their attacker ran in on goal and slipped the ball pass the keeper, scoring Wimborne’s first of the match.
Emily Austin attacked hard on the right hand side, creating several chances which were converted by Linda Drewitt, Susie Stone and Caitlin Dive in quick succession, leaving Weymouth with a 5-1 lead by half time.
Positive half time analysis of play and discussions between players allowed Weymouth the opportunity to change player positions and test some new player formations.
Weymouth came out hard as they knew Wimborne would be raring to go after a disappointing first half. Within two minutes, Weymouth had moved the Wimborne defence around the pitch, eliciting gaps upfront, providing Emily Sauven with an opportunity which she struck into the back of the goal for her second of the match.
Linda Drewitt linked well with Jo Brazier and Emily Austin upfront and created a goal scoring opportunity, which was saved by the Wimborne keeper, but Linda Drewitt pounced upon this to score a goal from a rebound off the keeper’s pads, completing her final goal of her hatrick. A similar goal was score by Jo Brazier to make the score 8-1.
The midfield worked well with the defence and attack to use the entire pitch and create numerous attacks. Emily Austin received the ball on the half way line and ran into the centre, taking on several players and running rings around the Wimborne defence. Emily Austin continued her run into the D, took the ball on her reverse and a straight reverse hit on goal made the score 9-1.
Final play by Weymouth led to a foul by Wimborne in the D. The penalty corner routine was a straight strike by Sophie Foot into the back of the goal. Final score 10-1.
