Weymouth ladies faced top of the league, West Wilts, at home without 3 of their regular players. The visiting side showed why they are top of the league at the start of the game putting a lot of pressure on the home side.
With a changed back 4, Weymouth were very disciplined in defence and worked really hard to keep the away side out. Versatile Chloe Van Crugten filled in at right back and didn’t look out of place.
Halfway through the first half Weymouth conceded a penalty corner. Sweeper, Jacqui Ridler bravely dived in front of a lifted, goal bound shot and took the ball on her knee resulting in her having to go off injured. Weymouth had to shuffle around at the back but still kept their concentration well.
West Wilts managed to make the most of a mis-placed pass from the back and score a well worked goal.
Lynny Drewitt as always looked dangerous up front and had two chances in the first half following counter attacks down the right. She was unlucky with both.
Susie Stone and man of the match Casey Foot were solid in the middle and worked well together.
Alice Craven in goal made some great saves and it was down to her it stayed at 0-1 at half time.
Weymouth were positive at half-time, helped by having coach, Andy Stiles on the sideline encouraging and giving good team advice.
Wilts started strong again in the second half and Olivia Culbreth, Sophie Foot, Jacqui Ridler coped really well under a lot of pressure. Alice had a lot to do in goal and eventually Wilts got another with an unstoppable shot after a break down the right.
Weymouth’s heads didn’t go down and Lara Blundell looked sharp making some good runs up the left and did some very good hassling. A good 10 mins of Weymouth pressure resulted in a penalty corner which Emilie Sauven converted after a well worked move between her and Emily Austin.
Chloe Van Crugten, back in her normal position of midfield worked well with Casey Foot who played a pass into Lynny Drewitt who’s shot went just wide.
Wilts made sure of the win with a third goal, where they made the most of good advantage play by the umpire.
