Weymouth hosted Swanage and Wareham at home without Captain Emily Austin. Vice-Captain Anneka Rogers led the Weymouth side without other regular first team players Susie Stone and Emily Sauven.
Swanage started strong, pushing their pacey forwards high, making it tough defensively as the Weymouth defenders were pushed back into their own 25. Swanage kept piling on the pressure and made a run to the back line. Weymouth players thought the ball had gone over the backline and stopped playing, but the Swanage side played on as there was no call from the umpire. The Swanage attacker mishit her shot and it trickled into the back of the goal bouncing over the goalie’s, Alice Craven, stick.
Weymouth were disappointed in this as it is the second time this season they have been punished for stopping play. Weymouth continued to battle hard and tried to keep the width, but unfortunately all the attacks were stopped by the Swanage defence and kept at bay.
Weymouth had several short corners in a row, with narrow misses at the posts, but determined play led to a straight strike short corner routine between Anneka Rogers, Casey Foot and Sophie Foot, was struck by Sophie Foot making the score line 1-1.
Most of the play appeared to be in the middle of the pitch and Weymouth were finding it difficult to generate width.
Half time talks led by coach Andy Stiles re-focussed Weymouth of their duties and aimed to play more aggressively, wanting and attacking the ball.
Weymouth started well, but the Swanage side left a striker high and a well-placed ball by a midfield left Weymouth looking back and the player took the ball around the keeper and stuck the ball into the back of the goal making the score 2-1 to Swanage.
Weymouth held strong from here on in and the ball rarely made it into the Weymouth 25 and the defenders were focussed on creating attacking moves. Creative play by Casey Foot in the midfield tried to start lots of attacks but to no avail. A run down the right hand side and a pass into the D was missed by two Weymouth players and would of levelled the score, but Weymouth were forced to look on and were left bitterly disappointed with a loss.
