A similar game to that of the previous week as a vital toss was won by vice skipper richards on the hottest day of the year!

The first bit of good news arrived on Friday evening whilst skipper Tibbs was at the Swalec stadium (I know what your all thinking, but no, it was not the fact that Tom Salmon was watching the 20/20 cricket and not out till 5.30am on a saturday morning) but it was the loudspeaker welcoming pencoed cricket club to the ground who were on a stag do, and also out to wet the babies head for a couple of there players, hopefully a trip into town becconed after!
With the Skipper running late due to work, vice skipper Mike Richards' tossing (which he is well known for) brought more painful headaches to the pencoed players that any alcohol did the night before, the knowledge they had to run round the field first in sweltering 30c conditions!
A superb 154 opening partnership by the in form Raheem Ali (84) and Alex Webb (74) sent heath on there way and dragged pencoeds heads further down. Both players were getting extremely tired over by over with 2 tired shots eventually bringing them there downfall.
It was a good job that partnership materialised because some poor batting from the middle and lower order meant only 227 runs were reached on a day where over 300 looked likely with the start we had and having over 20 overs left with wickets in hand when the openers succombed to the weather.
A few poor umpiring decisions accorrding to the not out batsman did not help matters, with wickets falling around the steady veteran simon Coombs(22) who said he was never out LBW!
The promotion of Dani Zaman to number 3 bat did cause a few talking points during and after the game, but this week that decision didnt pay off, skipper Tibbs being swayed by other senior players thoughts, will think twice next time i guess!
Pencoed never threatened the below par heath total, with Richards, Rogers, Perera and Salmon all taking wickets with great control. Most noteably 'super' sober Tom Salmon getting 4 wickets with firstly a spell of Quick aggresive fast bowling, then some wirely looping left arm spin, lets hope he stays in on a Friday night more often! yet again Skipper Tibbs brought himself on to wrap up the win with his fine off spin picking up a caught and bowled.
Funny moment of the day was watching the previous nights stag swaying to the crease at number 5 ish bat (mind you this was at 6pm in the evening) he looked very unsteady but fair do's hung around for a while!
onwards and upwards , lets hope for a third succesive maximum points win at bottom of the table Llantwit fardre next week!
