Well lockdown continues, still no rugby being played at Foundry Lane and no beer being sold at the Bar. Despite this the Committee continue to keep in touch, with zoom meetings, emails and by phone so that we are in the best position possible to open the club, as soon the rules and regulations allow it.
Firstly, on behalf of the Committee I would like to thank all those members who have continued to pay membership subs. This monthly income plays a big part in paying for those bills that have to be paid – open or not. We have been proactive applying for grants as they have become available. We have been successful with some, others we are still waiting to hear about. This money will be essential to buy in the stock we will need to reopen and to see us through until we can rely on our bar takings, fund raising etc. again.
There have been RFU cluster meetings for local clubs, via zoom, discussing a variety of issues around returning to play and funding support. - Concerns around the risk of injury regarding return to rugby protocols for senior players, given the long layoff of any contact play. - What playing formats will there be when rugby re starts. ?Inter club touch tournaments, sevens. - Referees have not had any game time with new Covid laws. - Player retention and fitness. I’m sure players are looking forward to getting their fitness levels back up to where they were last summer, unless of course they already are!
As you will remember we did a lot of work last year to redecorate and refurbish the clubhouse and container. There is still work to be done to finish this off and we will send out for help when we can restart. There have been some thoughts about how we are going to remember and honour Scotty. Nothing has been decided about date or what exactly, apart from a game probably against Yatton RFC, Chris’ first club. If you have any ideas please come forward and let us know. It will of course be in conjunction with Pat and the family.
Please let us know if you have any other ideas to get the club back up and running when we get the all clear, things that could be done differently, new social events, it is YOUR CLUB.
Meanwhile we can at least enjoy some rugby on the TV – some of us more than others….
