Whitehall battle all the way against the odds

Whitehall 1st XV turned up at picturesque Dursley in very good time for a good warm up. With 6 forced changes from the previous weeks match day squad, and 3 of these on the morning of the match, we new it was far from idea preparation.
Dursley were as expected a very young enthusiastic side. They kicked off with a strong breeze at their backs and tried to kick for position before spreading the ball wide.
Dursley opened the scoring when Luke Colton was penalised after an excellent tackle, got to his feet and rucked the support player off the ball. The penalty was for coming in on the side!!!
Dursley 3-0 Whitehall
Whitehalls pack started to dominate, but for the second week running, wernt allowed to dominate or at times even push in the scrum after being repeatedly wheeled. Maul after maul was pulled to the ground at will with no action taken, and jumpers were dangerously "sacked" during the line out at the Dursley coaches request.
Luke scored our first try after hitting a great line through a slick backs move, to score under the posts. Converted by Channon.
Dursley 3-7 Whitehall
Whitehall nearly scored again after a long break by Tom Price who beat 4 defenders before being tap tackled by the fullback, Tom managed to off load to Craig Trump who looked certain to score, but Dursley somehow managed some great scrambling in defence to keep him out.
Dursley did manage to convert another penalty before half time.
Dursley 6-7 Whitehall HALF TIME
Whitehall now with the breeze at their backs should have wrapped the game up. We scored after 10mins through forward pressure, with Rich Court scoring in his 2nd 1st team match. Converted by Channon
Dursley 6-14 Whitehall
On a rare appearance in the Whitehall 22 Dursley turned a ball over through their usefull open side. The ball was passed out and a mismatch was found placing a back against our 2 props.
Dursley 13-14 Whitehall
It was just a matter of dominating possession and keeping control. We seemed to be able to do this but "gave away" some very dubious penalties.
Dursley ventured into the Whitehall 22 once more, but with a Whitehall 5 meter scrum awarded, it was surely a case of clearing our lines, scrum won the kick was charged down and a try was scored.
Dursley 18-14 Whitehall
With 10 mins remaining the Dursley players noted we were knackered and out of the game.
The last 10 mins were basically played in the Dursley 22, their prop was sin binned for a forearm to Jake Lucas after a kick and chase. We had 2 very good opportunities to score, but a wrong option and very good cover tackle denied us.
Our last chance came after a line out, when the ref told Dursley not to "sack" our jumper, we won good ball started a rolling maul that progressed nicely up the pitch only to be pulled down, ref blew and penalised Whitehall!!!!!
After a very disciplined performance a couple of players finally cracked and muttered some words of frustration and were marched back 30 meters. Game over.

Not a good day, but an important bonus point. As the game went on it became more obvious we wouldn't get any 50-50
decisions. Saying that we should have put the game to bed, after having more than enough opportunities to win comfortably.
Fair play to Dursley, very young enthusiastic side that made the most of their oppurtunites and decisions.

Man Of the Match Richard Court, improving in every game and capped off a fine performance with a try.
