Whittington were on their travels again at the weekend with a top of the table clash away at Willenhall 2nds, a clash that on paper looked like a close game so the early exchanges were key to getting the upper hand, on 8 minutes Pat Hobson found himself clear as the Willenhall backs struggled to deal with pace out wide, Mike Marshall secured the 7 point score with the convention, several promising Whit attacks seemed the killer pass away from a second score that eventually came as Tom Martin dived over from close range for another 7 point try.
The useful boot of Willenhalls fly half pressured Whit firstly with a well taken drop goal and then by forcing errors deep in the away sides 22 that gifted Willenhall two converted scores.
Although Whit got to half time losing 17-14 it was evident that Willenhalls sizeable pack had been required to work hard for their lead, now struggling to get around the park and leaving mismatches in the backs line , Steve Rose rang the changes from the extensive experience on the Whit bench with almost instant results as quick feet and quick thinking meant Tom Martin could cross for his second 7 point score.
More Whit pressure is rewarded with another 3 points from Marshall's boot, now edging ahead gaps began to appear in the home sides defence, smart off loads from Pete Hughes and Bayliss gifted Hobson his brace.
Now at full sail a hat trick was looming large as another couple of offloads first from Bayliss then Martin Hughes on to Hobson who unselfishly passed the ball to Tom Martin to crash over for his well deserved third.
Final score
Willenhall 2nds 17 Wittington 36
