Aston Hall maintained their second place and negated Wickersley Old Village’s challenge for the third place position by beating them at Northfield Lane. Aston Hall elected to bat first and made good use of a good wicket. Adam Whitely and Joe Barker produced an opening stand of 128 before Barker left with 68 to his credit. Whitely had smashed 10 fours and five sixes before he became the second wicket to fall with an excellent 108. Matthew Cartwright (46 not out) and South African Nicholas Smit (40 not out) saw the innings to conclusion at 273 for 2.
Wickersley’s first wicket, Haidar Jahangir (65) and Richard Harrison (41) added 71 before a separation was affected, but Wickersley fell behind the run rate required. The advent of Paul Lund who smashed 38 in 20 balls and Johan Bothma who 34 not out, acquired in 26 deliveries attempted to rectify matters. The run rate required however proved too difficult and Wickersley settled for a point at 235 for 8. Smit claimed four for 91.
