Wick 1 - 3 Frampton Utd (MOM Brad Clark)

With the pitch in fantastic shape and with the weather undecided, this season’s opener got underway with Frampton quickly out of the blocks creating two half chances in as many minutes. As the game settled it was Wick who came closest to scoring when Tom Kaye in the Frampton goal brought off a smart save from a Sam Roberts drive. On 23 minutes a slip by a Frampton defender allowed Wick’s Brad Clark to whip the ball across the Frampton goal, where a retreating defender found the net with their attempt to clear. Minutes later a great shot from Wick was matched by a great save from Tom Kaye.

On the 30 minute mark Ashton Trott in the Wick goal kept Wick's lead intact with a great one on one save, and it was the crossbar that came to Wick's rescue on 33 minutes following a great flowing Frampton move and terrific shot. Two minutes later Tom Kaye pulled off an incredible one handed save to deny Wick’s Jay Vile stopping a shot headed toward the top left corner. On 40 minutes a Wick free kick from 30 yards just clears the Frampton bar in what is a very entertaining game so far. As the half drew to a close Frampton levelled the score when the ever lively Romaine Dejuan Campbell whipped a great cross into the box for Freddie Fisher to crash home. It could have finished worse for Wick, when Frampton hit the post with the last kick of the half.

HT Wick 1 – 1 Frampton Utd

Wick began the second half slowly as they did in the first, and after two minutes of the restart they were dispossessed in midfield, allowing Frampton to race through on goal. A great save by Trott failed to clear the danger and Steve Jackson smashed the ball home to give Frampton the lead. On 55 minutes, Wick made their first substitution of the game, Mikey Golding replacing Jack Creaney. That spurred Wick into life but they were unable to break down a resolute Frampton defence. Brad Clark and Vile were linking well in Wick’s midfield, and Jayln Johnson on his debut for Wick, was popping up in some good positions, but was unable to create any clear cut chances. On 65 minutes, Wick looking to get back into the game, made two further substitutions, Codi Mansfield and Todd Carter replacing Liam Towler and Will Osborne. The wood work again saved Wick on 80 minutes but it was a defensive mix up in time added that gifted Frampton a penalty which Manolo Espada despatched to give Frampton a 3-1 away win. On 81 minutes, James Fox and Nathan Bell came on replacing Jayln Johnson and captain Sam Roberts. Following the final double substitution, Wick applied some late pressure, with Mansfield causing some problems down the right flank, but his final distribution failed to find a Wick player.
