Wick 1 - 3 Avonmouth

After our fantastic 1-0 home win last week, we welcomed top of the table Avonmouth who are pretty much guaranteed step 6 football next season. Today we welcomed Ash Hawkins into the squad, who had previously played at Wick in our youth ranks. Jacob Gardiner was missing from the squad, but Luke Bryan and Seb Scott were added. The game started lively in front of a sixty eight spectator crowd with both teams looking to use their pacing strikers and for the first fifteen minutes it was very evenly matched. However, it was Avonmouth who took the lead on eighteen minutes when Josh Pearce got on the end of a through ball from George Brown and lobbed the onrushing Ashton Trott in the Wick goal.

Avonmouth then doubled their lead after twenty nine minutes when Josh Pearce scored again, this time courtesy of a Jordan Mignott big deflection on his shot from the edge of the box. Wick refused to lie down and got back into the game on thirty eight minutes when Brad Abraham headed in a cross from Levi Brown to pull one goal back. A minute later Pearce could have scored his hat trick but was brilliantly denied by Trott with a point blank save. Wick had a great chance to level the game on the stroke of half time when awarded a penalty after Luke Bryan was fouled in the six yard area, but Seb Scott fired the spot kick wide of the Avonmouth goal. HT: Wick 1 – 2 Avonmouth

In the second half Wick continued to press for an equaliser and made three substitutions on sixty minutes with Tommy Longhurst, Liam Troake and Liam Towler replacing Jay Vile, Sam Roberts & Luke Bryan, but it was Avonmouth who increased their lead on sixty seven minutes, this time with Kyle O' Donovan scoring after good work from Tommy Taylor. Ash Hawkins made is senior debut for Wick on seventy minutes replacing Jai Macleod. On seventy four minutes, Wick went close to reducing the deficit, when Hawkins hits the post after good work from Liam Towler. Wick had a Louie Short goal disallowed on eighty minutes after some great build up in the Wick midfield from Brad Abrahams and Seb Scott. Wick kept pushing however, it wasn’t to be leaving them cursing their luck.
