Wigan's winning ways continue

Wigan welcomed 5th placed Didsbury Toc H to Douglas Valley this weekend. Having lost their previous encounter 34-14, Wigan were expecting a tough challenge from the South Manchester side.

Just 2 minutes in, a Winrow clearance gave Didsbury a lineout 10 yards from their own line. Chris Caw put pressure on the throw and won the lineout to give Wigan excellent position to set up a pick and drive ball which Tom Wilson took over for the opening score.

5 minutes later Wigan set up in similar fashion. Sam Gee kicked for touch and Wigan once again spoiled the Didsbury line. The resulting scrum was taken up by Mike Bristow who was stopped just short of the line. Tom Wilson was first to the ball and managed to recycle and carry the ball over for his second try of the match. Sam Gee added the conversion.

From the restart, Gee fielded the ball before making a 20 yard break and passing to Tongan back row, Sione Afu who took the ball deep into Didsbury territory before popping the ball up to Alex Preston. Preston took his man on before offloading in the tackle to John Clayton to take it over the line. Gee added the conversion to take the score to 19-0 after only 8 minutes of play.

Despite the initial onslaught, Didsbury rallied and Wigan could only add a penalty to the scores before half time and went in 22-0 up.

6 minutes into the second half Wigan were awarded a scrum deep inside their own half. Killian Wallace took the ball from the back of the scrum before offloading to Adam Dwyer. Dwyer made a good break before playing the ball inside to Mike Bristow who danced through the defence to take the ball over from 50 yards. Gee added the conversion.

On 12 minutes Didsbury scored what would turn out to be a consolation try as Wigan were to go on and score three more tries to close out the game.

The first, on the half hour, saw Dave Hoctor break the Didsbury line on their 22, to go over under the sticks. The second was a superb individual effort from Mike Bristow who picked up a loose ball on half way before beating the defenders to score his second of the game. Both tries converted by Sam Gee.

The third and final score was an interception by John Clayton who took the ball fully 80 yards unopposed before converting the try himself.
