Advice from the RFL

Covid-19 Coronavirus - New Guidance from Government re: Delay Phase

The RFL notes all the latest guidance from Government around self-isolation for those with flu-like symptoms; restrictions to school trips; and the protection of the elderly or otherwise vulnerable over the coming weeks to reduce the peak of the epidemic and support the NHS.

Government has said it is actively considering future restrictions on large public events and is discussing the impact that large events have on other public services.

There is no national recommendation on restricting large public events currently.

Government is clear that it is guided by the science and the situation is under constant review.

There may be an impact on our competitions in the coming weeks. The RFL will continue to communicate with all clubs and other stakeholders and work with all on mitigating short, medium and longer-term impacts on the sport at all levels.

For those Clubs that have arranged overseas tours or are hosting overseas teams we would encourage you to monitor the governments advice.

The RFL has been working closely with the DCMS, Government and national health organisations for several weeks and will continue to share all guidance with clubs.

Work to model a range of scenarios has been under way for some time. This work will continue as the RFL looks at options around postponements and adjustments to fixture scheduling which preserves the integrity of competitions and ensures the welfare of players.

Could we also take this opportunity to remind you about the importance of continued sensible hygiene around all fixtures and events. This means hugs, handshakes, high-fives and selfies are not advisable.

Advice to Clubs and Players
In addition to advising clubs of the above position, we have also reminded them of the Public Health England guidance on infection control and the advice regarding what everyone can do to reduce the risk of catching Coronavirus being:

 Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze. See Catch it, Bin it, Kill it.

 Put used tissues in the bin straight away.

 Wash your hands with soap and water often – use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available. See hand washing guidance.

 Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

 Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

 Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean.
