Willenhall win

Saturday 4th August 2018

Preseason friendly

Wolverhampton 2nd XV 31
Willenhall 1st XV 34

After the disappointment of last season, some clubs might have just carried on as normal with a status quo. This year, Willenhall are aiming to put a fair few wrongs right and get people noticing us for all the right reasons.

Willenhall took a strong squad of 22 to Castlecroft to face a strong Wolverhampton 2nd team. The most pleasing thing is, there are plenty of players unavailable or who were just unlucky in not being selected after putting in massive shifts at training that will be wanting to grab a shirt - competition is stiff. Players know it is still all to play for.

After going in at halftime losing, the squad turned things around and ended up winning 34 - 31.

Head coach Gavin Jones was understandably delighted with not only the result but also the performance.

“I’m chuffed to bits with the performance. As we would all agree, there’s things to work on, but the positives definitely outweighed the negatives. It was great to see so many things we have worked on being put in to the game and one thing you cant coach is effort and teamwork! Both were there across the field today in abundance.”
