Well this makes for a far more uplifting read on the most part from a Don's perspective.
2020 is back on track for the most part so let's run through the results.
Saturday saw the 1st XV take on Tring at home looking to recapture the momentum from 2019. The visitors were in no mood for fooling and came out of the blocks firing! However the chaps in claret and blue stood firm in front a pleasing crowd of both home and away fans and ran in 36-12 winners. You can read Tony Mann's match report here.
The 2nd XV also played at home welcoming Old Elthamians 2nd XV to Beverley Meads. This was big challenge on paper but the claret and blue boys really turned on the flair to run in a very pleasing 47-5 winners.
Sunday saw the Womens XV take on Medway Ladies at home. This was a difficult ask for our girls and they upped to the task valiantly Unfortunately the scoreline did not reflect the passion shown by our women as they went down in a close contest 5-10.
As always - we try and end on good news and that task thios week falls again to the evergreens of the Strollers XV. They travelled to Motspur Park to take on Old Blues 2nd XV in a double header. Carrying a number of injuries from last weekend's victory at Old Ruts - a diminished team took the oppo to task and ran in 19-26 winners. Bravo!
Congratulations to everyone who pulled on the colours this weekend!
Saturday - as usual on a home fixture for the 1st XV saw the club welcome a large number of guests to Wimbledon for lunch. It would be remiss of me not to mention how good the food was, as catered for by Guy our chef, and to thank the representatives from Tring for their excellent company and general bon hommie. If YOU want to attend one of these fab occasions just let myself or Chairman Wow know in advance. Our next one is a week Saturday - 25th January when we host Sidcup - and will be looking for a big crowd. The cost is a mere £15 for some excellent food and, nice wine and great company! Don't say you haven't been warned!
The Dando quiz is now fully sold out - so if you missed out I do apologise. Get in early next time. However you can still get in for our Wooden Spoon dinner on 28th Feb and its a mere £35 per ticket with John Inverdale as guest speaker. A great night for a great cause - so get your tickets sooner rather than later!
That's all from me - have a great week everyone.
