With our last fixture of 2017 getting postponed, it felt like quite a long time since we'd played our last match but Wimbledon ladies turned up with a head strong attitude and a desire to win! It had been a hugely busy morning down at Wimbledon and this led to a slightly ropey start to our warm up routine but we didn't let that interfere in our preparation, completing the highest intensity warm up we had so far this season. This is always a hotly contested fixture and, come kick off, Wimbledon ladies were ready to take on the challenge. The scoreline says a lot (with the last time we met Drybrook the result being very much the other way!) but there really was more to this. Our scrums were challenged but we continued to come out on top taking a large number against the head and our back line gelling in a way that we haven't seen all season. Our focus on rucking at training showed in this match with a turn around from being penalised to creating a large number of turnovers. The match was a try fest with six from our wingers, Emily Martin and Beca Erazo, one try from centre Alex Chung and two tries from flanker, Ange Brennan. Gutti and Robbo scored 8 points between them in conversations. Congratulations to our players of the match:
Forward of the match - Cat McGuire
Back of the match - Emily
Player of the match (as voted for by the players) - Alex
We are looking forward to our next fixture on Sunday 28th January against Guildford away.
