In previous seasons, our fixtures against Teddington have been sure to feature two things: nail biting rugby and bad weather (last season we played one game on the coldest day of the year and the other through a severe thunder storm where all the matches around us were abandoned and we played on!). For the first time in years, the sun shone on Bushy Park for this fixture and, thankfully for the large number of supporters, the nail biting rugby continued to feature.
Wimbledon Women were ready and raring to go; excited to put all they had learnt during a successful pre-season into practice. Unfortunately it took until half time for the team to step up but from there on, the structure, defence and decision making sent tingles down our supporters' spines. Although the final score wasn't what we had hoped for, the whole team came off the pitch hopeful for the season ahead.
Tries came from Centre, Laura, Second Row, Claire, Winger, Mim and a penalty try given after an almost match ending high tackle on captain, Hannah Gutteridge, centimeters from the try line.
Congratulations also go to Kate, Lucy, Mim, Sarah and Tracey who all played their first league games for Wimbledon. May they be the first of many.
