We’re looking forward to the return fixture already!

A thrilling Sunday saw an exciting game between Wimbledon and Newbury. The first half saw both teams play with enthusiasm and aggression. Wimbledon had some aggressive runs and great support to see second row, Cat McGuire, and centre, Katy Robinson, score tries. Wimbledon proudly marched a strong scrum over the try line and number 8, Lucy Boiling, smartly scored. During the week’s training, Lucy benefitted from a 1:2:1 session with Jade Konkel, our forwards’ coach and Scottish International. With some smart kicking and strong phases, Newbury took their chances in the second half but not without a fight from Wimbledon. With two further tries from Captain, Hannah Gutteridge, and a penalty try. Special mention must go to Kat Austen who worked extremely hard putting in some fantastic tackles from full back and Laura Venclova who put in strong defensive display from both 13 and flanker. Robbo controlled the backs well and provided some great positive chat throughout the game. Coach Saner sat back during the game encouraging the players to problem solve and self-lead the team which is a big focus going into the second part of the season.
