Six-a-Side Result

Six-a-Side Result

Guy Bewick7 Sep 2013 - 16:02

Crusaders fall in tight semi final.

An experienced Crusaders 7 travelled u to Enham for the annual six-a-side. On bumpy, slopey and longer than expected pitches, Crusaders got off to a flyer with a 2-0 victory over Andover Dynamos through goals from Guy Bewick and Mike Mustoe. The second group game saw a Stew Lang pile-driver cancelled out in the second half by the opposition centre forward, leading to the final game being a group decider against the doubly victorious Sparten.

A tight game saw few chances until Mark Vallance popped up from the back to drive home the Crusaders winner. Topping the group put Crusaders through to the cup quarter finals and a tie against Andover New Street. Crusaders were shocked to go a goal down and found themselves chasing a game for the first time in afternoon. The slope of the pitch proved crucial and with Crusaders attacking down hill in the second period, a good passing move across the top of the box was finished by Guy Bewick slamming an equaliser in off the bar. Extra time was needed and after a goalless first half, a fierce in-swinging corner from Bewick was deflected into his own net by a New Street defender. Crusaders comfortably kept possession to see out the victory.

The semi-final saw Crusaders pitted against last year's league champions King's Sombourne. As the heavens opened, a game of few chances was decided when a mix up in the Crusaders defence saw two players leave the ball for each other and the KS forward drill it into the corner. Crusaders pushed for an equaliser, but without too much conviction and their efforts were in vain. With rain continuing to pour down, nobody was too disappointed to be heading back to the changing rooms and the journey home.

All in all an interesting afternoon, with Crusaders taking the opportunity to assess a number of this year's new opponents.
