The Spartans played a friendly against Southcott Owls and played their best football of the season and take their chances well. Including a blistering first half which saw them fire in 8 goals

The game got off to a quick start and it was Southcott who had the first attack. With their number 7, who proved to be a handful all game, finding himself clean through right from kick off. It needed a great save from Theo to keep the ball out.

However, it wasn’t long before the Spartans started to apply the pressure. First Adam shot wide & then Joe had a good shot saved. The Spartans started to pass the ball well between them & it soon started to pay dividends. A nice passing move from Adam on the left to Joe in the middle & then on to Harish on the right hand side of the penalty area who fired home for the first goal.

This was followed quickly by 2 more goals. Joe passed the ball forward to Oliver who had his back to the goalkeeper and took a slight touch of the ball to deflect it past the keeper. Then another pass across the area from Joe found Oliver, this time a high pass. Oliver brought it down well turned & ran towards goal, slotting home at the near post. Spartans 3-0.

Southcott then replied with a great run by their number 7 who went past 2 or 3 players and finished well, leaving Theo no chance to save this time.

But the Spartans continued to pass the ball around well and it was a great passing move that created the fourth Spartans goal, one of the best in this game. The ball was passed from Adam to Oliver to Harish & then to Joe who finished well.

With Lochlan, Charlie & Thomas defending well in the first the attacks from Southcott were dealt with well and few caused problems but Southcott did have another good attack & cross from the left but the shot from the player in the middle went wide.

Next it was Ben to get on the score sheet with 2 quick goals. Oliver playing passes through to Ben who finished well with both. The Spartans were now 6-1 ahead.

Theo was called upon to make another good save before Oliver completed his hatrick. Adam took a great corner from the right to far post which was met by Oliver running in to fire in an unstoppable bullet header. Another good goal. It was almost repeated again moments later but this time Oliver’s header went wide.

As the first half came to an end the Spartans continued to press. Adam had a couple of shots saved, Oliver had shot tipped over the bar by the keeper and the last goal of the first half came from a very good run and finish from Harish.

So a brilliant first half for the Spartans saw them leading comfortably 8-1 at half time.

The start of the second half was much tighter with few chances for either team. Southcott were defending better in this period, but the Spartans also seemed to forget the passing play that had created so many goals in the first half.

Joe had one shot saved well & fired another into the side netting. Thomas crossed well for Ben who couldn’t quite find the shot before being tackled & it was half way through the second half before the next goal came
Harish threaded a nice pass through the middle to Joe who turned & finished well. This seemed to start the passing up again & it wasn’t long before Harish found Joe again for Joe to seal his hatrick for 10-1.

The chances then kept coming. Harish again played the ball forwards towards Joe, Joe dummied the ball and with the keeper stranded the ball hits the post. Charlie put Ben thorough but the defence recovered well & then Charlie had a shot saved.

Southcott’s number 7 again decided to show his pace and as the Spartans pushed forward they lost the ball and he went on another good run to score again.

Ben soon had another shot saved but then managed to get his hatrick. Lochlan fired in a shot which was well saved by the Southcott keeper but the rebound fell to Ben who slotted home calmly. 11-2

Joe scored yet again, this time a more individual goal which was created & taken well, before the Southcott number 7 decided it was his turn to get a hatrick. 12-3

As the game came towards the end Adam had a couple more shots saved, but there was still time for 2 more Spartans goals. A good run down the left by Joe saw him put in a good cross & Lochlan did well to get into the box & finish calmly. Then after what had been an inspired performance by Charlie he topped it off with the final goal of the game. The ball rebounded around the Southcott penalty area & they failed to clear it properly, it fell to Charlie on the edge of the area who fired in a good shot to make it 14-3.

It was a great team performance by the Spartans with them all playing their part & passing the ball around well. Defending well when they needed too & looking like they were thoroughly enjoying their football. It was great to watch & shows what they are capable of when they are at their best.
