Winnington Park R.F.C v Lymm R.F.C Away – Sunday 17 February 2019

by Kez Brown

A squad of 13 split into two teams made the journey to Lymm RFC and formed two teams to take on three teams in what would be some feisty matches.

Martin's team were Kai, Seb, Matty R, Matty E, Sam W, Thomas and Ollie. Match one was unfortunately one sided in Lymm's favour with them taking advantage of any small error by the boys. Seb put in a well earned try and Matty E got in some great tough tackles.

The team came out and showed spirit and determination in match two with all the boys getting stuck in and they all took some big hits in the tackles. Two great tries went to Seb and Matty E.

Lymm got the better of the team in match three more so down the boys feeling frustrated and struggling to retain the ball. There were two hard earned tries for Seb and Matty R.

Ollie and Matty E put in some great passes and communicated well throughout the matches. It was a tough day for the team but the boys should be proud of their resilience that they displayed throughout the morning.

Congratulations to the Player of the match: Seb.

Ecker’s team were Frankie, Josh, Sam B, Rory, Ryan and Sam M. Following the training warm-up and Ecker’s comment “if I was watching this on TV, I would turn it off”; the boys ramped it up and took on Lymm with total conviction. All the boys stood out for their team-work and support both when attacking and in defence. All the team committed themselves in the tackles and rucking was spot on with the match finishing with a great 6-2 win with tries from Sam B, Frankie, Ryan and a hat-trick from Josh.

Match two was a much tougher game and Lymm took advantage at the start and caused some errors which broke through the defence line. The boys picked up their heads though and showed true grit and determination fighting back to win 6-5.

By match three, the boys were tired but still kept their resilience to the end despite a few of the referee’s decisions working against them.

The whole team put in some tough tackles and there was great support for each other during all the matches.

Congratulations to the Player of the match: Sam M.
