Forwards Gabriella Richardson, Georgie Collett and Sarah Holland pressed play well and midfielders Leanne Gardner, Caroline Marsh, Kelly Clark and Hannah Preston battled well and provided the forwards with some lovely attacking through balls.
Winscombe’s first goal came from a great attacking move from Vonnie Rendall, driving the ball along the back line to Collett whose shot across the goal was converted by Clark with a spectacular reverse flick.
Taw Valley kept the pressure up and Winscombe’s defence of Chloe Brown, Michelle Isgar, Juju O’Sullivan and Charlie Edwards kept them at bay and provided excellent counter attacking play.
Unfortunately, Winscombe were caught out on a couple of breakaway attacks from Taw, which put the home team in the lead.
Player of the match Leanne Gardner displayed great fitness with her tireless work in midfield as Winscombe battled on with the whole team showing great attacking play; even Keeper Kate Dennis got involved, starting a great counter attack from a loose ball, playing it out to Charlie Edwards and onto Imogen Marsh, whose skilful play was broken down, resulting in a short corner.
Collett, Rendall and Richardson were very unlucky not to add several to the scoreline with some amazing shots thwarted by the Taw keeper. But it was Collett’s determination that eventually paid off after she expertly converted a rebound from a short corner to level the scores.
