Wirksworth Colts have recently received a very welcome boost with the award of a £400 grant from the Wirksworth Sports Group. The funding will be used to help finance the Covid kits which have been produced and will be needed by managers to help them meet the requirements of the club's Covid risk assessment as we return to training and league matches during September.
Bob Etheridge, Chair of the Wirksworth Sports Group, explained that the funding for Colts had come from an Active Derbyshire Grant, the Tackling Inequalities Fund, which the sports group had successfully applied to. 'We were successful in bidding for £2,000, to which we added £400 of our own money, and distributed to the six successful applicants.' He added 'We hope that this (money) will go some way to ensure that, in these difficult times, there continues to be opportunities for our community to maintain a healthy active lifestyle,'
Over the course of the weekend managers took delivery of their kits in readiness for the resumption of training from the 1st September. Eighteen squads of players will have returned to training by the middle of September which will mean that upwards of 250 players will be actively engaged in playing football for the first time since March.
Colts Chairman, Chris Whittall, commented 'Getting this financial support has meant a great deal to us. We have worked extremely hard over the summer to get ready for the new season. These kits will help us to ensure that all of our players train and play in as safe an environment as possible.'
