A great team weekend ends with a win against Swaffham & Watton Barbarians

Due to GCSE exams in late May and June it was decided to hold the annual tour in late February.
In a change from previous years instead of going “up't north” we went, nearly as far east as possible, into Suffolk. The accommodation was also very different from previous tours with clean, well appointed rooms and facilities, and no smell of cow sh*t to wake up to. The YHA also provided us with good cooked breakfasts and a more than adequate packed lunch.
Friday evening was chill out time and a chance to view the Six Nations game, and a much better game, our Cambs Cup Plate Final V Peterborough from the week before.
Saturday morning was a walking day for all but the two old men of the party who went into Woodbridge and Ipswich to reccy food outlets for that evening's meal.
After the walk and shopping trip it was a chance to be disappointed at England's woeful performance against the Scots. Only our French player, Ari, was pleased at the result, he would be dealt with at the court later!!
After a good meal of pizza, kebabs, curry and fish and chips, it was time for the annual court. Judge Meekins, who makes “Hanging Judge Jeffries” look lenient, was in charge of proceedings, numerous and various cases were heard, and the guilty suitably punished. As usual individual cases cannot be reported to protect the guilty.
After another good breakfast we said goodbye to the YHA and set off for our tour game against Swaffham and Watton Barbarians. Swaffham are the only team we have beaten this year, and due to numbers falling off have combined with neighbours Watton.
The overnight frost was still in the ground and the referee had decreed part of the pitch unplayable. As both teams were short of numbers it was agreed that Swaffham/Watton would play with 14 and Wisbech 13. No conversions would be taken. The game was fairly competitive and Wisbech had racked up a half time lead of 20 – 5, with tries from Geoff, Ben, George and Charlie. Ben and Geoff increased the lead shortly after the break. There was then an incident that led to one player from each side being red carded. It was unfortunate as the game had been played in a good spirit. The game restarted and Wisbech further increased their lead through Tom Barlow. Swaffham/Watton pulled two tries back to make the score 15 – 35. there were a further two tries each, Zaz and Rhys for Wisbech, and a final score of 25 – 45.
A good result as Wisbech had played the entire game a man short and certainly showed a lot of spirit.
After the presentations to man of the match – Hennerz, and numpty of the match - Geoff , it was time to head for home.
A good weekend all round.
