On the Saturday several of the squad and their parents and friends went to see Leicester Tigers V Northampton Saints, in a visit organised by Liz Simpson who deserves a really good pat on the back for her hard work in ensuring the day went smoothly.

On returning home on Saturday I received a message to say that the U16s Festival on Sunday had had to be moved from Ely to Newmarket due to the Ely pitches being unplayable. The news was duly circulated.

Because of the venue change the festival had to be split into two groups, one at Newmarket and the other at Woodbridge. Wisbech were in a group with Cambridge, Ely, North Walsham, Newmarket and Lowestoft and Yarmouth. Each team was to play four games of fifteen minutes duration.
Wisbech played Cambridge first and were truly well beaten 33 – 0.
The next game was against North Walsham, Wisbech defended valiantly for much of the game and it ended 0 – 0. This was a very creditable performance against a very strong side.
The hosts, Newmarket, were next and in a closely fought game they ran out 19 – 0 winners which didn't reflect some good Wisbech play.
The final game was against Lowestoft and Yarmouth, a very strong team, who have by the account of the coach had a really good season. Wisbech were on the back foot for almost the whole match and the boys defended their line superbly. Just as the game appeared to be heading for a scoreless draw Wisbech broke out of defence and Charlie Coles ran in an excellent try, which was converted by Geoff Kirby to give Wisbech a 7 – 0 victory.

Thanks must be extended to Newmarket for stepping in at the eleventh hour to host the event, and to Ross Cowie for all his hard work in ensuring the event went on.
Thanks must also be extended to the match officials from CUDRS who refereed the games.

And for the Under 16s this was the curtain call on the 2017/18 season. It hasn't been the greatest in terms of games won, but the boys have played some good rugby and are already looking forward, hopefully, to playing Colts rugby in the new season. Thanks must go to coach Mark Goude for his tireless efforts with the boys and also to his team of helpers whose contributions do make things happen for the boys.
