Today should have seen the annual season finale Unders v Overs match and Club Supper/Awards Evening. Instead, we are still in lockdown with uncertainty about when rugby will really return. In reality, there are bigger concerns out there for individuals as jobs and lifestyles are being seriously challenged by lockdown.
Questions have been raised about membership fees and the Club has asked me to publicise our position.
As we enter the closed season, the club loses significant income as the rugby activities cease. However, utilities and other bills still need to be paid. When the standing order option for membership was introduced, it was to serve three purposes. Firstly, it would spread payments for members, making budgeting for rugby easier. Secondly it took away the difficult task of physically collecting money at the start of the season and match fees after every game. And importantly, it gave the club an income over the summer months. For this final reason, the club would ask that members continue to pay their membership to help support the club through these unprecedented times.
However, should any member find themselves in a position where this is a burden they cannot afford, it is vital that they get in touch and let the club know. Witham RUFC will support any member who's job or welfare has been harmed by this pandemic. Should any member need help, they should contact any member of the board or committee and their situation will be kept completely confidential.
The restructuring of Witham Rugby Club into a business has put us in a stronger position to handle this situation. Settings have been adjusted to minimise utility costs and everything is being done to ensure our club will be ready for us when rugby finally gets the green light.
I hope you are all well and staying safe. I'm sure we all can't wait to enjoy a beer at the bar together.
Yours in rugby
