From the kick off, our boys were on the front foot, recycling the ball efficiently and edging forward. Pushing Burnham back into their own 22, a score looked inevitable. However, the hosts finally managed to get possession and the backs found a gap to exploit and open the scoring. From the restart, Witham were back on the attack and Burnham were defending desperately. This time, the pressure told and Luke Standbridge managed to dive in to score. The home backs were very mobile and even though Witham had the majority of possession, Burnham made it into our 22. When we turned the ball over and kicked clear, their full back returned via the left wing to score. As the half came to a close, the Burnham backs broke again to give them a 19-5 lead.
The second half saw Burnham boss the possession. With the wind now behind them, there seemed no escape for Witham. It was a very unpleasant 39 minutes for the Witham lads but they were resolute. The hosts extended their lead to 31-5. Late on, Daz Chesson came on and made a couple of good breaks. With the last play, Liam Ridgewell went over give a final score of 31-10.
Man of the match was Rob Bennett
Tot of the week was yoyo for throwing their 9 back into a ruck.
Irony of the week was having a respect barrier.
