With no referees available, young Daz Chesson agreed to ref what looked to be a tough game. Rochford have been at the top of the table winning with big margins. With an almost full squad, the seconds had a strong team and immediately went on the attack in the early exchanges. Max Basham demonstrated the team's determination with an early crunching tackle on their scrum half. The early pressure soon gave Ryan Logue the chance to open the scoring. Aaron Coombs told him to score it under the posts but Ryan thought the corner flag looked closer so no conversion. Their number 8 clearly didn't like the home side's driving maul and when he threw a punch, the ref rightly rewarded him with 10 minutes in the bin. While he was in there, Toby Wells managed to break though and clear. With just the full back ahead, he decided to use his support. However, his forward pass was spotted so rather than his first try of the season he earned his first tit of the week award. Lee Wilkey tried to get the award when receiving a kick off. Having called for the ball, he collected it- along with Darren Smith who had just caught it. In between all this, the home side just kept scoring. The final try of the half saw Aaron Coombs chip over the defence. Whilst most watching were tutting as they thought it was the wrong option, Aaron ran through to collect it and score. By this time, nobody was keeping up with the score but it was at least 39-nil at half time.
The second half really saw the home side being rampant. However, the team ethic was still in play with players looking for passes and offloads whenever possible. Rochford were missing a few players but were convinced they were playing our first team. This was not the case but they were playing a team who knew they could score and were playing with confidence and determination. Even Brian "the cat" Ellis decided to get into the attack and bagged 2 tries for himself. Having finally managed a full 80 minutes last week, Dave Hollick scored his first try of the season.
Other try scorers included Dave Sarling, Michael Vidler, Rob (I convert the easy ones) Bennett, Alex Beer, Josh Taplin, Ian Piper, Keith Willmott and Lee Wilkey.
