With Writtle arriving short of players, kick off was delayed as players were leant to even the numbers up. From the kick off, Witham looked determined and were first to every loose ball. Following a couple of pick and go's, Darryl Warnaar went on a mazey run to open the scoring. Sam Holloway was next to score with a far more direct attack. Witham were looking comfortable and tries from Mike and another by Sam gave a comfortable lead, extended further when Aaron Coombes slotted a conversion from out wide. When John Clarke broke through and passed to Darryl Warnaar, the defence was struggling. Darryl passed the ball so hard the John Cox has a dent in his ribs. But he managed to win the sprint to the line. Further tries from Darryl, James Harrison and Jack Churchyard contributed to a 54- 5 half time lead.
The second half followed a similar pattern with tries from Sam, James, Aaron, Fiji Dan and Mike. John Cox had slotted 9 of the conversions before the game finished with a try by Darren Smith, which was apparently a 60 meter sprint beating 17 defenders. Looked more like 6 meters to me though.
Man of the match was hatrick scorer Sam Holloway along with James Harrison.
Best wishes to Chris Jarman. Hope the blisters heal up ok.
