Witham took three 17 year olds to an away game that was always going to be hard. From the kick off, Witham were on the attack threatening the home line. Although they got close, runs by Tom Ray and Dave Hollick didn't quite make the breakthrough. When the hosts managed to get the ball, a huge clearance kick saw them not only relieve the pressure but open the scoring. Rochford had a spell of possession using their backs to spread the game and this enabled them to double their lead. A return to the Rochford half saw Witham finally score. As the forwards drove to the line, Daz Chesson took advantage of the gaps created to slip through and score. Late in the half, Rochford got over the Witham line but Lea Chesson not only tackled the player but also prevented him from getting the ball down. But Rochford did extend their lead with the final move of the half to go in 19-5 ahead.
The second half was a stalemate for 20 minutes but Witham played some great rugby as youngsters combined with the elder statesmen of Adam Scott-mason, Paul Cole and Steve Smith. Coley did show he still had his skills as he recovered s kick, stepped in and out of 2 players and then went to clear with a kick of the outside of his boot. Sadly, it came off the middle of the boot and went off a few metres backwards but that can happen to the best of us... (tut of the week was easy). Back to the good stuff, Daz Chesson doubled his tally with a clever pick up from a ruck. Witham were chasing the game and came close to closing the gap but as the game drew to a close, the home side broke away to give them a 26- 10 victory. Man of the match was Lea Chesson.
