Spirited friendly

The confidence of the Witham team is high after 3 wins, but Chelmsford started very strongly and made it clear that the home team would have to battle for possession, let alone any scores. That is exactly what the boys did. Although the visitors went 2 tries ahead quite early, they were being hit by some excellent tackles. While Manny and Harvey aren't the biggest lads on the field, their technique surprised a couple of big opponents who were not expecting to be felled. Hope the lad who did the splits isn't too sore. Chelmsford had a strong pack but Charlie (Boyo) and Yami don't like going backwards. In fact it was from a stolen scrum that Witham got their first try. Fed by Jimmy, Owen made his customary dash towards the opposition but offloaded before the contact to allow a little gap for Maleli. He used that space and a couple of hand-offs to break clear and score. All players were giving 100% without any quarter given but also without any foul play. Ryan showed great pace on the wing, even adding a hand-off when their winger tried to stop him. Daniel had been asked to play number 8 in the first half. Once he was moved to the backs, he used the extra space to make some great breaks. Jack, as usual was ripping everything from any maul situations and one such turnover saw Maleli on the loose again. Out came the hand-off and on he went to score. The result was 10-40 but I do believe that was one of the best games of rugby seen at the club this season. Commitment and a positive attitude from both sides made this an excellent way to spend a Sunday morning.
