The Mead prolonged their amazing season on Tuesday evening, as they edged a 5 goal thriller against Witham Town in front of 206 people. The Mead got a penalty in the 21st min, when Baff Addae was pushed in the box, and Chris Edwards squeezed his spot kick under Sambridge. The Mead held a 1-0 lead at half time, but Witham got a penalty in 54th min, when Lewis Goodbold was bundled over. Rob Whitnell sent Rob Budd the wrong way from the spot and that was 1-1. Witham were looking the more likely to get ahead, but the Mead looked dangerous on the break. In the 71st min, a long Rob Budd kick was chased by Stuart Zanone, Sambridge sliced his clearance kick to Baff Addae and he cooly lobbed the ball back over the Witham defence and into the net. The Mead only held that lead for 2 mins, as Danny Emmanuel got in a low cross, which Sam Taylor met, and although his initial shot was blocked, he followed up to score. So 2-2 and all to play for. But the Mead got what proved to be the winner in the 78th min, when a ball over the top of the Witham defence, saw Staurt Zanone hold off a defender before flicking a shot across Sambridge and into the far corner of the net. A great night for the Mead and they will face Maldon & Tiptree in the play-off final on Sunday 5th May after they beat Aveley tonight.
